Jakarta. Anti-graft prosecutors on Thursday (10/03) demanded a three-year jail sentence for a local official and a businessman charged with bribing former Hanura Party lawmaker Dewie Yasin Limpo to secure a power plant project in Papua.
During a hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also demanded that Deiyai Mining office head Irenius Adi and Abdi Bumi Cendrawasih director Setiadi Jusuf be fined Rp 100 million ($7622.84)
"We argue that the objective and subjective requirements have been met, and thus the accused should be sentenced," KPK prosecutors told the court on Thursday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
The KPK accused the two of giving S$177,700 in bribes last October to Dewie, a then-member of the House of Representatives' commission overseeing energy, to ensure that funding for a mycro hydroelectric plant in Deiyai district, Papua, would be approved in the 2016 state budget.
The cash was only the first half of a promised payment, with the remaining scheduled to be paid if Dewie succeeded in getting the project included in the budget, the KPK said.
Dewie, a member of the powerful Yasin Limpo political dynasty in South Sulawesi, could face up to life in prison if found guilty.
